Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) is an autonomous
body under the aegis of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government
of India, working towards smooth transfer of innovative, energy-efficient,
environment-friendly and disaster resistant building materials and
construction technologies from lab to field.
2. BMTPC has prepared the third edition of the Vulnerability Atlas
of India which includes hazard maps of earthquakes, wind/cyclones, floods,
landslides, thunderstorms and vulnerability risk tables based on available
latest data in order to help in enhancing preparedness of Governments and
various other agencies in mitigating natural disasters. The Atlas is a
useful tool not only for public but also for urban managers and National &
State Authorities dealing with disaster mitigation and management.
3. Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, released the Third Edition of
Vulnerability Atlas of India on the occasion of Global Housing Technology
Challenge - India (GHTC-India), Construction Technology India 2019
Expo-cum-Conference on 2nd March, 2019 at New Delhi organized by Ministry
of Housing & Urban Affairs. *The Hon’ble Prime Minister emphasized the need
to formulate & implement various schemes of the Central & State Governments
keeping in view the vulnerability of the region & indicative risk
assessment as given in Vulnerability Atlas of India and suitable provisions
should also be included in their tender documents. This document is to be
used by anybody/entity for the construction related aspects be it building
or any other infrastructure components. *The digital version of third
edition of Vulnerability Atlas of India has been made available on
www.bmtpc.org.
4. Taking the agenda forward, the Ministry of Housing & Urban
Affairs, Govt. of India in collaboration with School of Planning and
Architecture, New Delhi & BMTPC has launched e*-Course on Vulnerability
Atlas of India *on www.spa.ac.in/www.bmtpc.org. It is a basic e-learning
course that offers awareness and understanding about natural hazards, helps
identify regions with high vulnerability with respect to various hazards
(earthquakes, cyclones, landslides, floods, etc.) and specifies
district-wise level of damage risks to the existing housing stock. The
e-course will be a tool for effective & efficient disaster mitigation &
management in the field of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Urban &
Regional Planning, Housing & Infrastructure Planning, Construction
Engineering & Management and Building & Materials Research. A copy of the
leaflet giving details of the e-Course is *attached* herewith.
5. * Being a premier technical institute of the country, we would
request your kind support in terms of issuing necessary direction to all
faculties, all post graduate students and all final year undergraduate
students in the related field for undertaking E-Course. This course would
help faculties/students in better appreciation of natural hazards & go a
long way towards making a disaster resilient Society and Country.*
